BSD - Berkeley Software Distribution or Berkeley Standard Distribution

Collective for the operating systems derived from the BSD operating system. The most common are FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD, although technically BSD/OS and DarwinOS also belong to this family. –OwenAnderson

Darwin draws from and contributes back to the FreeBSD project.
