Bonjour is the new name in Tiger for Apples implementation of ZeroConf, previously referred to as RendezVous. The name was changed as a result of a trademark dispute settlement with TIBCO Software. The older name is still used in Panther, so as to not confuse Panther users and to keep consistency throughout the system.
Zeroconf is the combination of multicast DNS, IPv4LL (link-local addresses), and DNS service discovery to simplify network configuration. Bonjour in Tiger extends Panthers Rendezvous with wide-area features such as browsing for Rendezvous services within a domain rather than the local network and NAT traversal.
